Baby Milestones at 4 months – Motherhood Parenting Blog & Marketplace

Now that the newborn stage is over, here is what is expected from a four-month-old little one of yours.TCT has compiled a list of development milestones for your 4-month-old baby.1. Baby weight: Should have gone up. Typically, it would be close to double the birth weight.2. Motor skills: By now, your baby has likely realized that there are two extensions, resembling wings, which can flutter in the air (the hands can now coordinate to manipulate a toy or shake a rattle). However, in some instances, there is still enough time for them to grasp almost anything within reach, including your hair 😉3.Tummy time: At this point, your baby’s head should no longer be wobbly, but that doesn’t mean you should stop providing head support! These 4-month-olds can now hold their head and chest upright while lying on their stomach, so make sure to enjoy plenty of tummy time with them. They can also kick and push with their feet. So, it is an ideal time to buy activity gym set for them. Some babies have even figured out how to roll from tummy to back at this point.4. Steady sleeping pattern: From the third month onwards, babies start showing a positive shift in their sleeping pattern. Therefore, by now they should be able to sleep through the night.5. Communication skills are improving: 4-month-olds are beginning to develop a strong observation power. They can now notice that the people around them respond to their actions. When they cry, you come over. A few 4-month-old babies even begin to drop objects around. Infact, they enjoy dropping the same object over and over and over again, just to watch you repeatedly pick it up for him 🙂6. Vision: Even though vision is the least developed sensory system in a newborn, but the good news is that around 4 months, your baby’s vision has sharpened to about 20/40. Babies at this age can also pick out more subtle color contrasts (and not just black and white). They also can see across the room, although they still prefer looking at people close-up.Disclaimer: Each baby is different from the other in terms of developmental mileposts. Don’t panic if your baby hasn’t shown all of the above four-month-markers. However, do speak to your pediatrician if he/she hasn’t achieved even one of the indicators.Image source: 01, 02, 03, 04
