Best French Apple Cobbler Recipe

This is the perfect season to bake up a great fall apple cobbler recipe!  This French Apple Cobbler recipe is not only delicious, but it is much easier to make than it looks. It ranks right up there with our fried caramel apple slices and cinnamon roll skillet cake.

This recipe is so good—it’s probably my favorite fall dessert. Just serve our maple-bacon pumpkin pancakes for breakfast & this french apple cobbler after dinner, and you’re all set! This week, our oldest son asked if we could make this apple cobbler recipe again & of course, I said yes.  Our entire family loves it!  It’s easy to make, is ready in about 40 minutes, and is delicious! It’s the perfect dessert to serve warm on a chilly fall day (although eating it cold works, too!)

This apple cobbler is great at any time of the year, but baked apples in the fall are pretty perfect. If you like to go apple picking for fresh apples- even better.

You don’t need a lot of ingredients to create this recipe… although you might want to pick up some vanilla ice cream to make it even more delicious!  Use the leftover ice cream to make some fried ice cream!

French Apple Cobbler Ingredients

Below you will find the list of ingredients- they are broken up into three sections (to make them easier to follow).1- Apple mixture (filling ingredients)2- Cobbler Batter Ingredients (dough)3- Crumble Sprinkle Topping (cinnamon and sugar)

Apple Cobbler Mixture (Filling)

8 fresh apples- peeled, cored, and sliced into thin wedges1/4 cup white sugar1/4 cup brown sugar1 teaspoon ground cinnamon1/8 teaspoon ground nutmegPinch of mace (optional)1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice2 teaspoons cornstarch

Cobbler Batter (dough)

1 cup all-purpose flour1/4 cup white sugar1/4 cup brown sugar1 teaspoon baking powder1/2 teaspoon salt1 stick unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces1/4 cup boiling water

Cinnamon Sugar Sprinkle Topping

3 tablespoons white sugar1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

How Do You Make French Apple Cobbler?

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).In a large bowl, combine apples, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, mace lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss apples to coat evenly, and pour into a buttered 2-quart baking dish. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes. In a separate large bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Blend in butter with a fork, or a pastry blender, until mixture resembles coarse meal. Stir in ¼ cup water until just combined.Remove apples from the oven, and spread spoonfuls of topping over them. Sprinkle the entire cobbler with the sugar and cinnamon mixture. Bake until topping is lightly golden, about 25 minutes.

Once everyone is ready, dig in!  It is so good and so perfect for fall!   Then take it to a friend or neighbor and share it. Everyone will love it, and you will make someone’s day.
